Activartis’ therapeutic belongs to the novel class of active, cellular, autologous immune therapies.

In general, cancer immune therapies exploit key mechanisms of the immune system to attack tumour cells. Active immune therapies selectively stimulate the patient’s immune system to produce its own (T-cell mediated) immune response and teach the system to maintain the response for long periods of time.

Utilising the patient’s own tumour tissue, Activartis aims at mobilising the patient’s immune system to develop a tailored immune response against an individuals specific tumour. This “individualised medicine” can recognise and destroy existing disease and prevent disease recurrence. Therefore, the therapy is in principle broadly applicable to all cancerous diseases. In the light of current knowledge, it exhibits only minimal side effects.
