A portrait of Activartis

Activartis is a biotech company based in Vienna. Activartis is owned by the founder and CEO Dr. Thomas Felzmann, MBA, and AOP Orphan Pharmaceuticals AG, an Austrian pharmaceutical company specialized in the development and distribution of pharmaceuticals for orphan diseases (www.aoporphan.com).

Activartis (then Trimed) was founded in 2003 as spin-off of the renowned
”St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute”.

AOP Orphan, founded in 1997 and headquartered in Vienna, is a leader in the clinical development and distribution of medicines for rare or complex diseases. The company is active in a number of important therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology and neurology. AOP’s expertise includes pan-EU clinical development projects from formulation to commercialisation. AOP Orphan’s experts assist Activartis in regulatory, finance and business development matters.

Clinical development and research is led by CEO Thomas Felzmann and his team. Activartis’ manufacturing and quality control facilities as well as research laboratories
are located at the St. Anna Research Building.

Activartis is developing a novel cancer immunotherapy concept in phase II clinical
trial. Currently directed against aggressive brain cancer, it will in principle be applicable against all types of cancerous diseases and therefore has blockbuster potential.

The therapeutic platform combines a completely novel, proprietary
approach by utilising a bacterial danger signal in combination with the patient’s tumour antigens together with the proven successful concept of dendritic cells to
mobilise the patients’ immune system to combat the disease.
